the black barn

Refurbishment of a 17th century cottage with a history of distinctive development for which a further 21st century extension was entirely appropriate.

The minimalist form stands perpendicular in the form of a ‘barn’ connected by a sensitively designed glazed link. Black timber cladding creates the barn form beneath which a fully glazed wall provides south facing views across the garden. Inside: a large kitchen, dining and living space enjoys light, spacious family accommodation.

The Local Authority Conservation Officer was fully involved from an early stage of the project and this is highly recommended with Key Conservation Area properties and Listed Buildings.
