The conversion of Salford’s former Police Headquarters on The Crescent into a development of 117 apartments and 23 newbuild townhouses.
Manchester-based property developer and investor, Property Alliance Group sought our input to create a strong and well-designed residential scheme with integrity for the site’s successful re-development.
The existing Neo-Georgian Headquarters is to be retained and enhanced with a contemporary corten roof extension adding to the scheme’s appeal and viability with stunning apartments in both the original building and to the upper levels all with balconies. The remainder of the site was worked into a Georgian style terrace of four storey townhouses to Irwell place creating a private internal landscape, in a meadow style. The townhouses maximise their height to the outer edges of the site whilst dropping down to three stories to the internal landscape with pitched metal roofs.
The Conservation Area Status of the site has been respected through the use of high quality materials including brick, zinc, corten and timber. The material palette has also been selected for it’s longevity to create a scheme which is both elegant and timeless.
Our approach included the use of various visual material to communicate to all involved the site and a clear pattern of future use. A large card model was used to liaise with neighbouring residents who have been fully involved in the design as have a broad range of consultants to ensure the very best solution in all regards.
